THE FAVOURITE (15) @ Gonville Hotel

This ten-time Oscar-nominated film with Olivia Coleman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone is one of the biggest hits of the year.

The Favourite brings together comedy and biography with stunning cinematography, all with the backdrop of the glorious gardens of The Gonville Hotel, this is not to be missed.

In the early 18th century, England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne occupies the throne, and her close friend, Lady Sarah, governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and a mercurial temper. When a new servant, Abigail, arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing, and Abigail sees a chance to return to her aristocratic roots.

“The Favourite is a wildly entertaining, bracingly cynical comedy of royal manners directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. It’s a farce with teeth” – The NY Times.

We will be joined by some of Cambridge’s best local musicians who will be getting you into the mood before the screening starts alongside our incredible food vendors, Pull Me Cheri who will be serving up a delicious selection of pulled meats with a French twist in his stunning Renault Estafette. MEAN GIRLS (12) @ Gonville Hotel

This fetch film (stop trying to make fetch happen), is not one to be missed this summer!

This 2004 cult classic Mean Girls, is a 2004 comedy written by Tina Fey, where Cady is initially a hit at her new school with the plastics until she makes the mistake of falling in love with the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic, Regina George.

Teenager Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) was educated in Africa by her scientist parents. When her family moves to the suburbs of Illinois, Cady finally gets to experience public school and gets a quick primer on the cruel, tacit laws of popularity that divide her fellow students into tightly knit cliques. She unwittingly finds herself in the good graces of an elite group of cool students dubbed “the Plastics,” but Cady soon realizes how her shallow group of new friends earned this nickname.

“Mean Girls has the same fancifully dead-on tone as the 1995 high-school comedy “Clueless” without the sweetness because, hey, these snits are mean.” – USA Today

We will be joined by the incredible Arepa’s Station, sharing the Latin flavours of Venezuela street food with delicious gluten-free Arepas.

This ’80s Rom-Com classic stars cinema legends Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Can men and women ever just be friends? Come and join us for one of the most iconic films of all time in the beautiful Gonville Hotel.

Aug 22 @ 6:00 pm
The next date in our ‘Music & Movies: The Connection’ festival, Enchanted Cinema in collaboration with repmusic presents Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s iconic artistic masterpiece starring Audrey Tautou.

Amélie is a fanciful comedy about a young woman who discretely orchestrates the lives of the people around her, creating a world exclusively of her own making. Shot in over 80 Parisian locations, acclaimed director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Delicatessen”; “The City of Lost Children”) invokes his incomparable visionary style to capture the exquisite charm and mystery of modern-day Paris through the eyes of a beautiful ingénue.

“This film is filled with airy whimsical charm the way that a chocolate soufflé is filled with air. Audrey Tatou is just right as Amélie, a perfect gamine in a Lulu haircut.” – Nell Minow

DIRTY DANCING (15) @ Gonville Hotel
Aug 23 @ 6:00 pm
DIRTY DANCING (15) @ Gonville Hotel

Have the time of your life watching the ’80s classic Dirty Dancing back on the big screen, under the stars in the beautiful gardens of The Gonville Hotel.

Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle. Before the screening, there will be live music by some of the best local musicians in Cambridge getting you into the mood for the night ahead.

Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she’s disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby’s father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she’s determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.

“Endlessly quotable, strangely fascinating and immensely charming, there’s a reason that this retains an evergreen appeal. And it takes a hard heart not to grin at the final, euphoric dance number” – Caroline Westbrook – Empire.

Getting you in the mood before the screening will be live music by some of the best local musicians in Cambridge.
