“Definitely an enchanting evening. As the sun sets the lovely lighting around the seating brightens and some local Cambridge acoustic sets a beautiful evening up for a joyous night. Drink in one hand and some popcorn on my lap, reclined in a deckchair… my sort of movie night.”

Samuel Benjamin Harris

Artist

“Every detail is thought of, the magical lights to the homemade brownies! Love the emphasis on everything being so ‘Cambridge’, the local street food, local musicians. Everything was so fabulous, can’t wait to bring my friends again this summer.”

Londiwe Ncube

Stylist

“Each event they did here in the garden of The Gonville Hotel last summer was fully booked and that has to be put down to the unique experience they create for each show.”

Christopher Ogston

Manager of The Gonville Hotel

“With a great selection of features, passionate support of local creatives and an abundance of popcorn, this team of friendly film lovers guarantee their audience a unique experience: enjoying the stars on and above the silver screen as the summer sun sets. To simply say it’s enchanting is a cop-out, but a genuine one nonetheless.”

About Us

We’ve popped up in the garden of The Cambridge Blue, The Red Lion Grantchester, The Gonville Hotel and we’re spending this summer in the beautiful and iconic Cambridge spot, The Orchard Tea Gardens Grantchester.

Our story starts simply. We loved making an evening of going to the cinema. Going for food before, a local music night after. One summer’s evening we wished we weren’t going into a dark room as the sun set. And the idea of creating an evening that incorporated it all got us buzzing with excitement and ideas.

We are both in love with the city that raised us and have always been involved with local projects and working for independent businesses, Steak & Honour, Fitzbillies, Cotto. We worked, saved, got creative and excited in every spare minute and in August 2015 we hosted our first open-air cinema event in Cambridge.

With friends and family on side, word spread and the magic of Enchanted Cinema unravelled. It was that beautiful evening in the garden of The Cambridge Blue when we understood just what we had created and most importantly what we were sharing with Cambridge.

Staples of Enchanted Cinema have and always will be about keeping it local and creative. Before every film a local musician plays for the audience, we screen an independent short or two and we’re all about local street food vendors popping up alongside the cinema!

What have we been up to since last summer? Ellen spent October to March working as a volunteer in Athens running a school for refugees and Will has been busy managing the opening of Cotto Restaurant at The Gonville Hotel. And this summer we’re back with Team EC, ready for more magic than ever this summer season.

Magic, laughs, films for everyone. Enchanted Cinema is all about the good vibes that come naturally with summer evenings of open air cinema with music, magical lights, drinks, food, comfy chairs and sharing a film with friends and like-minded strangers.

We can’t wait to share more magical evenings of outdoor cinema with you. See you soon,

Will and Ellen
