We’ve waited a long time to show this gangster classic.  It’s one of our all time favourite films and it was an absolute pleasure sharing an evening of classic cinema with so many fans of The Godfather.  It was lovely too to hear that some were watching it for the first time under the stars with us.  We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we do every single time

One of the nicest guys we know, Harri Beasley, played a magical acoustic set before the film.  He runs a music night at The Earl of Beaconsfield on Mill Road every Thursday night with fellow local musician Tom Petie, co-founder of Unpluggedin Cambridge.

Cambridge filmmaker Robyn Wilton is selecting the independent short films that we show before each of the features at our events this summer at The Orchards.  We showed Hairatage directed by Aisha Sanyang-Mee.  It is a First Acts commission and is one a series of First Acts Short films presented by Screen South and the Ignition Network, in partnership with Random Acts and Arts Council England.  We are super proud to support talented young creatives aged 16-24 who deliver bold expressions of creativity in these 3 minute long short films.  We hope the audience last night enjoyed seeing work from the next generation of artists/filmmakers!

“Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than the government. It is almost the equal of family.”  Don Corleone

Thank you for everyone who joined us at The Orchard Tea Gardens Grantchester for an evening of cinema, drinks, live music and magical outdoor cinema.  We hope to see you again soon.

It never ever gets old!  The ultimate Tarantino cult classic Pulp Fiction is timeless and we just love showing this one.  So much so that we’re showing it again under the stars on the 17th of September at The Biergarten Film Festival in collaboration with Thirsty.  If you missed out on tickets to Pulp Fiction at The Orchard Tea Gardens Grantchester, join us at the Thirsty beer garden on Riverside next month.

We had the very lovely Souvlaki Shack serving their Cypriot souvlaki before the film.  They use only fresh and locally sourced produce and it was great to partner with an independent business who shares our ethos in keeping things local.

Local blues singer Louis Thomas played a soulful set before Pulp Fiction and serenaded the audience as the sun set with his soulful vibes.  Always a pleasure having a Louis at Enchanted Cinema.  Watch his space as he’s one super talented guy!

“Here’s to the fools who dream, crazy as they may seem.”  We all fell in love with La La Land as soon as we saw it.  We’ve urged everyone we know to watch it and feel it deserves absolutely to be seen on the big screen!  To be able to show it on the Enchanted Cinema screen was such a magical thing.  And in such a magical magical setting

The tale of the city of stars played out under the stars and it was just magical.  It was fantastic to chat to audience members who were about to watch it for the first time and loved that there were so many who were watching it for the second, third and even fourth time.  It’s become an instant classic and we cannot wait to show it again in years to come.

“Here’s to the ones who dream, foolish as they may seem. Here’s to the hearts that ache. Here’s to the mess we make.”  Mia

A huge thank you to the wonderful Kura Kura.  They served delicious South Indian and Srilankan street food all evening.  Those onion bhajis are something else!  We also had local musician Warren Daniel playing before the film.  He played new songs from his upcoming EP and played a magical set

We loved the spirit of our audience last night at Back to the Future at The Orchard Tea Gardens.  Oh the Great British weather!  Still, Prosecco was popped, drinks were flowing and there was much delicious food enjoyed courtesy of the lovely French Chef, Franck, the man behind La Maison du Steak.  He brought down his street food van Pull Me Cheri and warmed bellies and hearts.

As always it’s a pleasure to make every event that bit more ‘Cambridge’, local and independent, having Pull Me Cheri and also Cambridge-based singer Warren Daniel play before the film.  Warren was back for the second evening in a row and played yet another magical set, putting smiles on the audience’s faces and quelling any worries that the rain would stop us enjoying an evening of music and film in The Orchards.

Cambridge filmmaker Robyn Wilton is selecting the independent short films that we show before each of the features at our events this summer at The Orchards. Before Back to the Future we screened Future Curious. It asks the question: in a world where old technology has been banned to make way for the digital future, what risks would you take to reconnect with your past? You can watch it here.

“Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.” – Emmett ‘doc’ Brown

This great short was created by young artists from mac Birmingham ‘Future Curious’ project.

We all took a journey back into our past yesterday evening as we watched Marty McFly hoverboard back onto the big screen.  There is so much nostalgia linked to this film for us and so many others and it was so amazing to relive the film together in such a beautiful space.

Thank you to everyone for coming down and embracing the weather. You were a fantastic audience, we hope we see you again soon and for a drier but no less magical evening of cinema at The Orchards!

Oh the Great British weather! In true Enchanted Cinema style we set up the cinema in high spirits in spite of the rain and and in anticipation for the legend that is Star Lord to return to our big screen.

What a great audience. It was a full house, every deckchair filled and everyone arrived with a smile. We love enchanted cinema goers! Everyone fashioned our stylish waterproof ponchos and enjoyed hot dogs from local street food vendor Road Dogs.

Warren Daniel, local musician played at our first ever event back in 2015. Last night he was back performing to an EC audience and it was as magical as ever. If you have like to stop and listen to buskers in central Cambridge you’re likely to know Warren as he’s been busking to and wooing Cambridge crowds for a while now.

He’s recently had some time away from performing to write his new EP and we think it’s his best work yet. It was great to here some amazing songs from it yesterday. You can follow him on Facebook here to keep in the Warren loop. His latest EP is coming soon.

Peter Quill: “What should we do next? Something good, something bad? Bit of both?”

Gamora: “We’ll follow your lead, Star-Lord.”

Peter Quill: “A bit of both!”

Cambridge filmmaker Robyn Wilton is selecting the independent short films that we show before each of the features at our events this summer at The Orchards. Before Guardians of the Galaxy we screened Voyager. This mesmerising short film tells the story of a primitive figure awakened deep within the primeval forests of Northern Spain. The visuals and colours of this short looked ridiculously beautiful to against the silhouettes of the trees of The Orchard Tea Gardens.

Voyager is a First Acts commission and is one a series of First Acts Short films presented by Screen South and the Ignition Network, in partnership with Random Acts and Arts Council England. We are super proud to support talented young creatives aged 16-24 who deliver bold expressions of creativity in these 3 minute long short films. Guardians of the Galaxy became an instant cult classic from the moment it hit cinemas and we look forward to the next time we make another magical event of one of our favourite films. What a soundtrack!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night, you were a magical audience and the perfect company to watch GOTG under rain drops and stars. We hope to see you again soon.

We love Total Film’s description of Amelie: “The rarest of cinematic rarities – a schmaltz-free feelgooder which doesn’t make you feel good, but reminds you that true love can exist and that beauty can be found in even the most seemingly mundane of places.”

A perfect Sunday evening. Mid summer, in a clearing in The Orchards, the story of Amelie Poulain unravelled on our big screen. Amelie is Ellen’s favourite film and it was as magical as we had imagined it would be.

A perfect Sunday evening.

Local street food vendor Churros Bar served up their delicious Spanish churros and the EC Bar and popcorn machines were in full flow as per!

Imogen Mahdavi is a Cambridge born-and-raised singer now based in London. She made a special trip back to her home town to play in one of her favourite Cambridge spots, The Orchard Tea Gardens. This girl is one to watch. The more she writes, records and performs, the more people fall in love with her and that soulful voice. She has been likened to Amy Winehouse for good reason and she left the Enchanted Cinema audience spell-bound yesterday evening. A big thanks to Imogen and her guitarist for playing and creating such a magical atmosphere before the film and as the sun set.

“So, my little Amélie, you don’t have bones of glass. You can take life’s knocks. If you let this chance pass, eventually, your heart will become as dry and brittle as my skeleton. So, go get him, for Pete’s sake!”  – Raymond Dufayel aka Glass Man

Before Amelie we screened Chops, a Channel Four First Acts commission directed by Jac Clinch. It’s a great independent short film that tells the story of a man called Keith. At a hybrid hairdressers-restaurant, where one may receive a smart haircut whilst dining, Keith is disturbed to find a hair in his food.

So, all in all last night was a truly enchanting evening! There were lots of giggles throughout the evening. Lots of smiling faces too as the audience made their way back to their bikes, taxi or cars after an evening of French cinema, churros, drinks, popcorn, deckchairs and blankets, under the stars.

We’ll be back at The Orchards on Friday the 28th of July for a weekend of Guardians of the Galaxy, Back to the Future and Batman. To all who joined us for Amelie, thank you for being a truly magical audience. We hope we see you again soon. Big love from Team EC x
